Transforming the everyday part 3

Finally, I found something that I enjoyed and something I knew how to make already so I had a positive side while creating my idea. My idea was to cover my hand in mud rock/cast and use it has door handles. Because I wanted to create more than one hand it gave me an idea that I could use these hand models and use it for a cupboard. So when the models were painted to look realistic as I could paint it, I used my sister to pose with the models at home using the drawers and doors that I had.
Also, since I was using features of the body, I created something that may exist already but I haven't seen for myself which was to use my foot as a door stop.

Transforming the everyday part 2

I started to make a teapot out of clay but it didn't work out because the clay was way to wet and heavy and it couldn't hold the shape that I wanted. So I used chicken wire to create the shape and I would cover it up with less clay. At first I was willing to cover it up with sugar cubes but they clay would still be visible and would look appealing. Sugar cubes was an idea because I don't take sugars for my tea but I know many people that do so making a teapot out of sugar cubes would satisfy many people if it really was possible to make something that makes them enjoy tea more like sugar. But as I said about the clay it would be too visible and started to add something that had no link to teapots. Sticks is was I added...
Adding sticks was a bad idea but the chicken wire inside that clay started to appear to, this teapot wasn't going to plan atall

Transforming the everyday

The project that we are focusing on now is transforming the everyday. Anything that we use on a daily basis can be transformed and as an instant idea I thought of alarms clocks since that's what I use so that I'm on time to college. While looking at several alarm clock images I came across the computer game character Pac man and was inspired by where the clock was which was inside his mouth. So I had the idea of using humans lips but couldn't think of how I could transform it to my satisfaction. So I moved on completely and thought of teapots.

Final Trancription!

 Through the history of the Grote Kerk, it was set alight by a worker who just got fired at the church. At first he tried to kill himself but failed and accidently burnt the church which left the delicate building into pieces until it got renewed. This is were I transcribed this and made it look more of a newer Grote Kerk but after building it the second time, it got set on fire again!
I then went to the park and set it on fire leaving my hard work behind and left it there to ruin in ashes. It wasnt completly burnt down because I still wanted to show how delicate a Cathederal really is.

Here I added the patterns, and for my modern effect it gave a new look by giving a round interior as well as the outside.

Another students balancing objects

First balancing image

This is an upload that another group of students built as a sculpture for balancing. This is what they made as their first sculpture using a heavy, sturdy metal that would support a few sticks up. The sticks are the reason why the light bulb was able to balance on top because the metal holding it up was really narrow and the head of the bulb was big enough to be held up. Also, it made a really good effect from the see through yellow acetate which would be seen as part of light from the light bulb.

During the day it was really hot so the majority of the students went outside to try out some balancing using the natural environment. Both students Sarah and Laurelle went out to collect some twigs which they managed to put inside holes in the bricks, which when all the twigs were in, they were able to balance on their own. This sculpture was more of an improvement from their first sculpture by using the same colours but using a completely different technique. The twigs were well inside the bricks so they were able to hold up the bulb with scrunched up yellow acetate. This was one of my favourite balancing sculptures by other students because they managed to improve their work and used a completely different balancing technique than everyone else.

Balancing objects

It was our first day at Working Mens College and at the beginning of the day we got split into groups of two and as a team we collected several objects and tried to find multiple ways to balance different things in different ways.This image shows a wide range of objects I found to create a balancing piece. It is a mixture of using glue to help the objects stay still and objects that I managed to balance on their own. At first, I was messing around to see what the objects can and cant do and placed them in different places until I was pleased with it. As you can see, there are a few dents in the cardboard from where I have been moving things around. Nothing was planned to create this because not everything would balance the way I wanted them to. Due to the weight of the Elephant and where I placed it, the object underneath was able to stand up with its curved bottom.

The image on the right is another one that we made using toothpicks. I glue gunned down the two toothpicks around the rim of the tin and was able to balance another one on top, it was able to balance from the two earrings on either side of the toothpick to put on equal weight.

Overall I thought that the first image with the Elephant was successful because I used different types of equipment such as connecting metal with wood to make both balance on each other. Although the metal had more weight, I was able  keep them up straight from the length of the wood. With the blue background and the colour of the cardboard it gives the effect that the location of the Elephant is in a hot country. Similarly, there is also a success with the other sculpture. As you know birds fly, and the earrings that are helping balance the toothpick are left hanging which looked like they were moving swiftly in the air.
